san francisco 2004 will be held at the historic and scenic
Festival Pavilion at the Ft. Mason Center from July 22-25, 2004. Last
year's event tallied nearly 4000 visitors - with more expected this
year. In anticipation of increased attendance the exhibition has moved
to the spacious Festival Pavilion, adjacent to the former venue at
Herbst Pavilion.

Mark
Citret has produced a large body of work with the
working title of "Unnatural Wonders", which is his
personal survey of architecture in the national parks. He
has been photographing the ever changing play of ocean and
sky from the cliff behind his house. Currently he is in the
midst of a multi-year commission from the University of California
San Francisco, photographing the construction of their 43
acre Mission Bay life-sciences campus. 
Keith
F. Davis
is Fine Art Programs Director, Hallmark Cards, Inc., Kansas City,
MO. He became Curator of the Hallmark Fine Art Collections in
1979, Chief Curator in 1987, and Fine Art Programs Director in
1992. In these positions he has expanded the Hallmark Art Collection
to over 2000 paintings, prints, and dimensional works, and the
Hallmark Photographic Collection to a present total of over 5000
works by 850 photographers. He has curated seventy exhibitions
from the Hallmark art and photography holdings, which have been
seen in over 300 individual bookings in leading museums across
the U.S., and in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain,
France, Spain, and Switzerland. Davis’s various awards include
a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities (1986-87)
for his work on the Civil War-era photographer George N. Barnard.
In addition to lecturing widely on various aspects of 19th and
20th century photography, he has taught the history of photography
at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is currently Visiting
Research Professor of Art History at the University of Missouri-Kansas
City. He is the author of twelve catalogues and books.
Penelope
Dixon is a consultant and appraiser specializing in fine
art photography. She serves on the board of the Appraiser’s
Association of America and is a senior member of the American
Society of Appraisers. She holds a B.A. in Visual Communications
from American University and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from City
University of New York. She has lectured on photography collecting
and appraising at many institutions and conferences, including
the Houston Museum of Art, The Center for Photography at Woodstock,
The New School for Social Research, New York City, Albright Knox
Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York and the Art Gallery of Ontario,
Toronto. She is the author of Photographers of the Farm Security
Administration: An Annotated Bibliography (1983), and has contributed
to various photography-related periodicals, journals, books and
catalogues. Her appraisal business is head-quartered in Miami
Beach, Florida and currently serves clients around the United
States as well as in Canada and Europe. 
David
Maisel is engaged in an ongoing project that utilizes
aerial photography of environmentally impacted landscapes as a
meditation on contemporary consciousness. His series show the
undoing of the natural world by the wide-scaled intervention of
human intervention in the landscape. The images of these damaged
wastelands, where our efforts have eradicated the natural order,
are both spectacular and horrifying. Although Maisel’s photographs
evidence the devastation before him, they also transcribe an interior
psychic landscape that is profoundly disturbing. As otherworldly
as the images appear, they depict shattered realities of our own
making. April 2004 marks the release date of David's monograph
of The Lake Project, published by the esteemed Nazraeli
Press. 
Photographer
Alec Soth has had solo exhibitions in New York,
San Francisco and Berlin. His work is in numerous public and
private collections, including the San Francisco museum of Modern
Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Walker Art Center.
In 2004, his photographs were featured in the Whitney Biennial.
Steidl will publish Soth’s first book, Sleeping Along
the Mississippi, in fall of 2004. Along with teaching at
the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Soth has photographed
for Fortune, Newsweek and The New York Times Magazine.
Joel-Peter
Witkin is the recipient of numerous NEA fellowships and
was awarded the Commander of the Legion of Honor, Paris. His uniquely
dark and evocative representations of the human figure have been
exhibited worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art New York,
Guggenheim, The Whitney Museum, and San Francisco museum of Modern
Art.
